Keep every Shopify store in sync — a Multi Store Sync setup guide

Running production, staging, and outlet stores means keeping the same catalog in several places at once. This guide shows how to make one store your source of truth and sync products, themes, and discounts to the rest — automatically.

Most growing merchants don't run one store — they run several. A production store, a staging store for testing, an outlet or wholesale store, maybe a regional store or two. Every one of them needs the same products, the same theme updates, and the same discounts. Kept by hand, that's the same edit made three, four, or five times, and it drifts out of sync the moment someone forgets one.

The Snapper Apps Multi Store Sync app makes one store your source of truth and pushes changes to the rest. This guide walks through connecting your stores, choosing what to sync, and putting it on a schedule so it runs itself.

Why multi-store management gets messy

When each store is edited independently, small differences pile up fast:

  • A price or product description updated on one store but not the others
  • A theme fix deployed to production but forgotten on the outlet store
  • A promotion live on one storefront and missing on another
  • Hours spent re-keying the same catalog change across every store

The real cost: it isn't just the duplicated effort — it's the customer who sees a stale price, or the promotion that never went live on half your stores. Drift is invisible until it costs a sale.

What you can sync

Multi Store Sync works in independent modules, so you turn on only what you need:

  • Products — titles, descriptions, prices, variants, images, and inventory rules from your source store to every connected store
  • Themes — push theme updates so every storefront stays visually consistent
  • Discounts — keep promotions and discount codes identical across stores

Each module runs on its own, so you can sync products continuously while pushing theme changes only when you choose.

Step-by-step setup

Setup takes just a few minutes. Here's the flow:

1

Install on your source store

Install Multi Store Sync from the app page on the store you want to treat as your source of truth — usually production. Approve the permissions to read and write products, themes, and discounts.

Your source store is the one others copy from — nothing is written back to it.
2

Add your connected stores

In Settings → Stores, add each store you want to keep in sync — staging, outlet, regional, and so on. Authorise each one once and it appears on your topology map alongside the source store.

3

Choose what to sync

Turn on the modules you need and set optional rules:

  • Products — sync the whole catalog, or use rules to include/exclude by tag, type, or collection.
  • Themes — keep every storefront on the same theme version.
  • Discounts — mirror promotions and codes across stores.
4

Set a schedule, then Sync

Give each module its own schedule — for example, products every night and discounts on demand — or hit Sync now to run immediately. Watch changes travel from the source store out to every connected store on the topology map.

Pro tip: run a manual sync on a single module first and check one connected store before scheduling everything. Once you've confirmed one clean run, turn on auto-sync and let it maintain itself.

Scheduling & automation

The point of Multi Store Sync is that you stop thinking about it. Each module runs on a background schedule you control:

  • Per-module schedules — products, themes, and discounts each run on their own cadence
  • Auto-sync — leave a module on and every change to the source store propagates automatically
  • Pause any module — hold theme syncs while you're mid-redesign, without stopping product syncs

Every run is recorded in the activity log with a clear status for each store — synced, skipped, or failed — so you always know the state of your network at a glance.

Verifying your sync

  1. Open the Activity log in the dashboard and confirm the latest run shows Synced for each connected store
  2. Open one connected store and check that the change you made on the source store is present
  3. Check the topology map — every store should show a green, up-to-date status

If a store shows Skipped, a rule excluded it from that run; Failed entries include the specific error, most often a store that needs re-authorising.

Summary

Managing several Shopify stores shouldn't mean doing the same work several times. With Multi Store Sync, one store is your source of truth and every other store stays in step — products, themes, and discounts — on a schedule that runs in the background. You make the change once, and it's live everywhere.
